This avocado salsamole recipe is a fresh guacamole salsa dip with creamy avocado, bright lime, tomato, red onion, garlic, and just enough jalapeño to give it a little heat. It has the familiar richness of guacamole, but with a salsa-inspired flavor that makes it feel a little lighter, brighter, and perfect for scooping with tortilla chips or serving alongside a casual Mexican-inspired meal.

I have made this recipe many times over the years, and it is still one of my favorite ways to use ripe avocados. It is simple, fresh, and dependable, which is exactly what I want from a homemade guacamole recipe.

What Is Salsamole?

Salsamole is a cross between salsa and guacamole. It keeps the creamy texture of mashed avocado but adds the fresh, tangy flavor you expect from salsa.

This version uses simple ingredients like tomato, red onion, jalapeño, lime juice, garlic, and cider vinegar. The result is a dip that tastes familiar but has a little more brightness than classic guacamole.

It is especially nice when you want something that works as both a dip and a topping.

Why You’ll Love This Guacamole Salsa Dip

This salsamole guacamole recipe is quick to make and does not need anything fancy. A few fresh ingredients come together in minutes, and the flavor is easy to adjust depending on how much heat you like.

A few reasons this recipe works so well:

  • Creamy avocado gives it that classic guacamole texture
  • Tomato, lime, and cider vinegar add fresh salsa-style flavor
  • Jalapeño gives it a little kick without overpowering the dip
  • It works with chips, tacos, quesadillas, burgers, sandwiches, and more
  • The recipe is easy to make mild or spicy depending on your taste

The cider vinegar is the small ingredient that makes it stand out. It gives the dip a slightly tangy finish and helps balance the richness of the avocado.

Choosing the Best Avocados

For the best avocado salsamole, use ripe avocados that give slightly when gently pressed. They should feel soft enough to mash, but not mushy. If the avocados are too firm, the dip will not have the smooth, creamy texture that makes this recipe so good.

Color can be helpful, especially with Hass avocados, but it should not be the only thing you rely on. The California Avocado Commission notes that ripe avocados should be firm but yield to gentle pressure.

Once your avocados are ripe, this recipe comes together quickly.

How to Serve Avocado Salsamole

This guacamole salsa dip is perfect with tortilla chips, but it is just as good spooned over dinner. I like recipes that can do more than one thing, and this one easily moves from appetizer to topping.

Serve avocado salsamole with:

  • Tortilla chips
  • Tacos or taco salads
  • Fajitas
  • Burgers
  • Sandwiches or wraps
  • Grilled chicken
  • Quesadillas

It would be a great side for rotisserie chicken quesadillas or a fresh topping for loaded taco pizzas. If you are making a casual appetizer spread, pair it with something warm and creamy like high protein cottage cheese queso.

Tips for the Best Salsamole

The texture is completely up to you. Mash it until smooth if you prefer a creamier dip, or leave some small avocado pieces if you like chunkier guacamole.

Fresh lime juice gives the best flavor, and the jalapeño can be adjusted depending on how spicy you want it. Start with the recipe amount, then add more if you prefer extra heat.

For the freshest flavor, make it close to the time you plan to serve it. Avocado dips are always best when they are freshly mixed.

How to Store Leftover Salsamole

Avocado salsamole is best served fresh, but leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for a short time. Press plastic wrap directly against the surface of the dip, then cover the container tightly to help reduce air exposure.

The color may darken slightly as it sits, but the flavor should still be good if it is eaten soon after making it.

For best results:

  • Store in an airtight container
  • Press plastic wrap directly onto the surface
  • Refrigerate promptly
  • Stir before serving
  • Enjoy as soon as possible for the freshest flavor
