Many children across the nation have gone back to school and are already enjoying their first long holiday weekend. However, Tuesday is around the corner, and back to lunch making, buses, and homework. Do you feel worn out and exhausted by 8:00 AM on weekday mornings? If so, you are certainly not alone. When you have kids that go to school, mornings can be a crazy, chaotic scene. The good news is that you really can make school mornings with kids smooth and easy.

Start the night before– Make the mornings much easier by getting things ready the night before. Before the kids head to bed for the night, have them take out the clothes they want to wear to school in the morning. Don’t stop there make sure their shoes, jewelry, and hair accessories are ready as well. Also, make sure all baths and showers are taken before bed and ensure they all have their books and homework in their backpacks. After the kids go to bed, you can take this opportunity to pack lunches and set the table for breakfast in the morning. Or better yet start letting your children pack their own lunch (with your supervision). This is a great task to help them learn a little responsibility.

Get up before anyone else– Get a jump start in the morning by getting up 15-20 minutes before anyone else in the house. This allows you time to get yourself ready and have a quick cup of coffee before the chaos starts. This is important because it is kind of tough to help your kids get ready and out the door to catch the bus when you are running through the house looking for your cell phone and car keys. I usually am up and out of the shower before the kids get up.

Start the day with music– Kids just aren’t natural born morning people but then again, most adults aren’t either. To help put everyone in a cheery morning mood, put on some upbeat, happy music for everyone to listen to while they are getting ready to start the day. You can play tunes like, “Happy” by Pharrell, “Mr. Brightside” by The Killers, and “Hey Ya!” by OutKast. After the kids start hearing the beat, they will forget how tired and cranky they were just 10 minutes ago.

Make breakfast simple and easy– While breakfast is indeed the most important meal of the day, you want to make things simple and easy. Plan out your breakfast meals for the week or the month on Sunday evening. You can make Monday waffle day, Tuesday cereal day, Wednesday egg day, Thursday bagel and fresh fruit day, and Friday banana-nut muffin day.
My daughter has very strong opinions on what she wears, eats, and how she looks in the morning. She is restricted by her dress code at school so she loves to show her style with shoes. She has a large collection of shoes from bobs, boots, converse hi tops, and more! She wears a different shoe each day depending on her mood. Another great way for her to show off her own personal style is with her hair accessories. She was so excited when she received a large package of Straight A Style Back to School line from Goody’s.

With their large selection of hair accessories, she can wear her hair in a ponytail, clips, barrettes, headbands, and more. She loves to wear headbands as it keeps her hair off of her face, not to mention she looks beautiful. On PE day she likes to wear her hair in a ponytail and add a little style with a bow, flower, or colored hair tie.
