Panasonic Lumix G7

With summer in full swing here in South Florida I have one word for you H-O-T! In Florida, it is all about the weather, sunshine, and beaches during the summer months. Our biggest challenge? Staying cool! This means that most weekends you can find Shibley Smiles outside by the pool enjoying the refreshing water. We usually play a game of pool basketball, lounge on a raft, and enjoy our lunch in the bright Florida sunshine!

I want the kids to remember these fun moments when they are older. I know that my family used to spend weekends out by the pool and I have such fond memories of this time. It is hard to get the whole family together, often when kids get older and do their own things family time isn’t at the top of their list of important things. To help make sure they remember these fun times I do what any good mom would do and break out the camera to capture the moment. I was recently sent a Panasonic LUMIX G7 camera to review and I couldn’t be more impressed with this camera.

Panasonic LUMIX G7 Review

The Panasonic LUMIX G7 is my first dip into a mirrorless camera (I didn’t even know they existed).  On the recommendation of a friend, I decided this review was going to be worth the time and effort and it turns out I was not wrong. One of the advantages of the Panasonic LUMIX G7 mirror-less camera is that it has the quality of my DSLR but without the bulk and especially the weight. It is amazing how lightweight it is and fits easily in my hands. This will definitely encourage me to take my DSLM camera instead of opting for my camera phone like I have in the past.

4K Ultra HD Video pause and extract 4K Photo Modes

Today we are going to be talking about an amazing feature of this camera that is all about 4K Video and Photos. It is video meets photos in a whole new light. Often when trying to take photos of your kids, who are always in motion, you end up with a weird face, eyes closed, a blurred movement, or capturing the photo just seconds before or after you wanted to. With the 4K Ultra HD Video, you can take 30 frames per second and pick out the best one.

4K Video – CannonBall

Take this short clip of my son running into the pool and doing a cannonball. The chances of me getting a great photo from this 2-second jump with the camera on my phone or even my DSLR are pretty minimal. With the Panasonic LUMIX G7, I didn’t have to worry about missing the moment. I just simply held down my shutter button while he did his cannonball and then visited the photo afterward. Using the touch-enabled monitor I was able to bring up the video and pan through it frame by frame. Selecting the best frame I can then convert it into a breathtaking photo.

Panansonic LUMIX G7 Review

I mean seriously what I shot right? No blur, a smile on his face, suspended in motion as he prepares to plummet into the pool. I even got a cool aftershot of the splash!

Splash

The splash is just so clear and vivid. I just couldn’t get enough of this camera and had to show my friends and co-workers the amazing photos. I got some great responses and had to share.

“That is too cool! Love, love, love it. Can’t believe how clear it is. Beautiful!” – Co-worker & Friend

“Wow! Pictures are so clear. Amazing technology now a days!” – Co-worker & Friend

Of course, everyone else wanted to get in on the fun and see what amazing photos I could take. My husband was showing my daughter how to dive so I grabbed the camera and set it to 4K and snapped away!

My daughter joined the fun working on her own cannonball!

This is just one of the many features I have been playing around with and I can’t wait to share with you some of the others such as the Panasonic Image app which makes transferring photos from your camera to your phone a cinch. In the social media world that we live in this makes sharing with others a snap! Until my next post, I leave you with some great photos all taken with the Panasonic LUMIX G7 in 4K mode.
