Now that I have finally let the cat out of the bag about my weight loss journey I wanted to share what I have started doing to help keep me motivated. As previously mentioned between Thanksgiving and the end of February I had only managed to lose about 8.8 lbs. My weight continued to go up a few pounds and then I managed to take the pounds off but I hadn’t progressed. There is no secret to why, nothing in my way, no plateau, I just haven’t been eating as well as I should all the time so I had maintained instead of lost. However, I really want to get the next 50 lbs off and I would like to do it before the summer of 2019 ends (even though it hasn’t officially begun). Thankfully here in South Florida that gives me a lot of time. So I am leaning on an old form of motivation I used in 2013 called DietBet.
Motivation with DietBet
This is a unique and fun website and app to help keep me motivated. It doesn’t work for everyone because there is no diet or exercise plan. This is a put your money where your weight is a type of motivation. It is free to join DietBet. Once you have joined you can browse the games you can join. There are games ranging from $10 to $100+. You are betting on yourself. I was currently part of the VALENTINE’S FAT FIGHTER, and have now joined Magical March for Lucky Losers.
How DietBet Works
The way DietBet works is you pick a game and you place the required bet. In my case the bet was $10 (I wanted to start low). I am betting that in 4 weeks I can lose 4% of my body weight. If you meet your goal you get to split the pot with all the winners. The first time I used this site in 2013 I joined a $25 bet and I took him $44.25 after the game was over.
The recent game I was in had 780 players with a pot of $7,800. I met my goal with 3 pounds to spare and took home $15.96. I reinvested some of this money on the new game I have joined beginning 3/24 and will be joining an additional game for more motivation. You can join up to three games at a time.
In addition to the game, I have also become a paid member of DietBet at $50 a year which allows me to enter a weekly contest for prizes. Each week I weigh in which keeps me even more accountable and this enters me into the weekly contest. For example, the random winners this week have a chance to win a wireless pair of Beats headphones. I have seen prizes such as Fitbits, cookware, and even a treadmill.
If you are looking for just that little bit of motivation to help keep you on track, without anyone pushing you or telling you what to do then I definitely recommend DietBet. It is a fun way to keep yourself accountable and join others that are on the same journey as you. It is always interesting when others share what they are doing, what they are eating, and their progress. It is a great community to join!
