Last week when I posted a few photos of our home and how it is coming along a few people mentioned the view through the sliding glass door….our pool. Today I thought I would share some photos of our pool and the very much hard earned beauty of it.
The Back Story
When we first looked at our house in January of this year it was in good condition even though it was vacant. We purchased our home as a short sale. As we were going through the long process of a short sale we would stop by and check on the house every once in a while since it was only 2 miles down the road. We were shocked when we went around back to find at the end of February this waiting for us…
One of the owners (the couple had been divorced) found out that the ex-wife had shut off the water and stopped taking care of the pool and felt bad. So he had his pool guy clean it up for us which he did until the end March. We did not close on our home until May so each week we would go over and add chemicals to try to keep the pool from turning into a swamp again all on our dime even though we didn’t own it. Once we closed we hired the pool guy to work on our pool. After trying unsuccessfully with chemicals to get the pool bottom clean of algae we finally bit the bullet and drained the pool to have it acid washed.
We also had to replace the pool pump and purchase a new cleaner for the pool. Out of everything that needed to be done with the house the pool definitely was the most costly simply because the owner decided to have the water turned off which meant the pump could not run and chemicals were not added on a weekly basis. In addition to our pool costs we also had to do some major landscaping. Our back yard looked like a jungle with a lot of bushes and trees, more trees than were needed.
The tree on the left is right in between two palm trees. Leaves from the palms were dieing and falling into the tree and just piling up. The upper right is a photo of a large tree INSIDE the patio, it just looked like a big mess. There were a lot of bushes of all sorts in between the trees in the back yard (bottom right). We ended up having the large tree in the back and inside the patio removed along with all the bushes. We still have some additional work and landscaping to do but we eventually were able to enjoy our pool and back yard during the summer.
Pool and Landscaping Today
Mid afternoon
Not sure if you can tell but behind the fence is where we removed all the bushes and to the left of that tall tree in the background is where we removed the very HUGE tree.
During Sunset
Behind the hammock in the corner (inside the patio) is where we removed a tree, and in between the two skinny palms behind the fence is where we removed the very HUGE tree.
We did keep quite a few trees and I LOVE the beautiful palm trees in my backyard, definitely a sign of Florida!
