10 Fun Things to Do in the summer

Summer may not officially start until June 21st but with the kids out of school and the sun high in the sky beating down at temperatures in the 90’s it is safe to say summer has begun in South Florida. No matter what age your children are 2, 10, or 16 one thing that seems to plague them during the summer vacation is boredom. The best way to start your summer is with a list of things to do in the summer.

Bubbles

Bubbles may be a child’s toy but admit it you, as an adult, love bubbles just as much. Get out your bubble wand and bubble machines litter the sky with bubbles and chase after them!

Picnic

Get away from the house for a time and enjoy a summer day in the park. Make sure to pack your picnic basket and blanket. The kids will have a great time sliding, swinging, and running around the park. You can sit back and relax and watch or join in. When packing your picnic basket, make sure to include food that is not easy to spoil, hand snacks like goldfish and graham crackers, or a simple summer charcuterie board with easy-to-pack favorites.

Throw a Pizza Making Party

Buy individual pizza crusts and lots of fun toppings. Not only will the kids have a great time creating their own individual pizzas you won’t have to make lunch!

Visit a Zoo or Aquarium

Many cities have buy one get one free or coupons for your local zoos, aquariums, or museums. Take advantage of the summer special and spend a day with the kids enjoying the animals, sea life, and history. It will be a fun and educational experience.

Build a Fort

Grab the blankets, pillows, and anything in between, and build the biggest and best fort in your living room. Veg out watching TV, reading books, playing games, and telling ghost stories.

Play a Board Game

My kids love playing board games when we join them. Let everyone pick one board game and play all of them. Make sure to prepare some fun snacks like popcorn, trail mix, chips, and of course Capri Sun to wash it down. For older kids and teens who like puzzles, teamwork, and indoor activities, Time Travel Escapes is another fun South Florida option to keep in mind.

Things To do In the Summer

Play Dress Up

Let the kids go wild in your closet! Buy some wigs, makeup, or other fun dress-up accessories at your local dollar store. See who can create the funniest, stylish, or outrageous costume. The great thing is with dressing up no one can do it wrong and every time you can create a new look!

Decorate With Chalk

Grab the sidewalk chalk and decorate your walkways with your child’s art. Join in on the fun and it is sure to be a masterpiece made from the heart!

Create a Scrapbook

Remember that summer vacation from last year? Grab the photos and some paper, stickers, and fun items from your vacation. With your children create a fun scrapbook and laugh remember the vacation and plan your next family vacation.

Take Photos

Kids love being behind the camera. As an adult, it is fun to see what piques their interest and the photos they choose to take. Buy each of your children a disposable camera and let them take photos of whatever they like. Then develop them and see what wonders you will find.

Summer is a great time to enjoy as much time as you can with your kids without the hassle of homework, school, and extra activities. Enjoy the time when you have it before you know it they are all grown up, driving, and leaving home!
