When it comes to buying glasses online, you can find great deals and convenience. GlassesShop was my first experience with ordering glasses online versus getting them from the doctor. I started wearing prescription eyeglasses about 28+ years ago. However, I only wear them occasionally. I swear when I turned 40 I woke up the next morning and it was like everything changed including my eyesight. Now not only did distant items look blurry I was having a harder time reading things to close. In the last five years, I have transitioned from a pair of glasses for driving and a pair of glasses for reading/working to wearing progressive glasses.
Glasses from GlassesShop
I broke my glasses and neglected to get a new pair. Fortunately for me, GlassesShop reached out to me to see if I would like to review a couple of pairs of women’s eyeglasses. They gave me a large selection to choose from. It is hard to pick out glasses without trying them on, but I found that there is a great “Try On” feature so you can get an idea of what they look like on you. This was my first experience buying glasses online and it was a great way to access a wide selection.
GlassesShop Tryon Feature
There are two ways to “Try On” glasses, the pair of glasses you choose dictates which option you can use. One way is to upload a photo of yourself, tell them where your pupils are in the photo, and when you try on the glasses they will appear on the screen for you to move them into place. This is nice but the 3-D Try On is better. You need a camera for this option. This try-on option allows you to see the glasses in real time on your live image on the screen. You can even move your head around to look at the glasses. What a fun way to try on glasses, especially when you are considering buying glasses online!
Prescription Sunglasses
Given the chance to review two pairs of glasses I knew immediately I wanted to review a pair of prescription sunglasses. I have never owned prescription sunglasses but have always wished I had a pair for sporting events, the beach, or anywhere outside where I need to see better in the distance. They are also great for driving during the day. When I need to wear my distance glasses I can’t wear my sunglasses. Living in South Florida that is very annoying.
I chose the “Lora” glasses and I absolutely LOVE them. I have never had prescription sunglasses but now that I do I can’t go back! Everything is so crisp and I love how they look on me. I am 100% satisfied with this kind of sunglasses when buying glasses online. These glasses only include my distance prescription.
Progressive Glasses
For my second pair of glasses, I wanted to replace the pair of progressive glasses I had previously broken. I really need to wear these more often as they do help when working and watching TV. I have always been a fan of rimless glasses as it feels like you don’t have on glasses. They are lightweight and there is no rim in your sight of vision to distract your eyes. This time I did pick a larger pair of rimless glasses to give me more surface area for the proper prescription, making this an important step in the journey of buying new glasses online.
I think the glasses look pretty good on me and as you can see it almost doesn’t look like I have glasses on. However, unfortunately for me, I can not use the glasses. I just can’t see properly out of them. I am unable to walk or see anything distance-wise unless I tilt my head down. When I tried to use them on the computer I had that fish-eye view where the edges were round. I have included GlassesShop response to this issue below. The glasses pictured above are “Richfield” in purple. I also requested the transition glasses that darken up when you are out in the sunlight and I’m happy to report they do darken as expected (see photo below).

Usage
For seeing distant objects, keep your head upright and look straight ahead. Use the upper part of the lens to obtain a clear view. For seeing near objects, lower your head slightly and look down naturally. Use the lower part of the lens to see close-range objects such as books and computer screens. For seeing medium-distance objects like computer monitors or instrument panels, adjust the position of your head and eyes to find the clearest visual area, which is generally in the middle-lower part of the lens.
Precautions
- Adaptation period: Progressive lenses have an adaptation period, usually taking one to two weeks. In the beginning, you may experience discomfort such as dizziness and distorted vision. This is normal. Gradually increase the wearing time to let your eyes and body adapt slowly. You can start wearing them in indoor static environments such as watching TV and reading books, and then gradually transition to outdoor and dynamic environments.
- Correct posture: Maintaining the correct head and eye posture is very important. When looking at objects at different distances, do not turn your head frequently. Instead, find a clear visual area by natural movement and adjustment of your eyes. Avoid looking at objects obliquely to avoid affecting the visual effect.
My Thoughts About Buying Glasses Online
As mentioned this was my first time with online glasses. I would definitely have no issues buying glasses online for single-vision eyewear. I am extremely happy with the sunglasses. I would be more hesitant to purchase a progressive lens online due to my own experience. I will note that my pupil distance was calculated using an app vs going to a doctor so I have to wonder if that has anything to do with the issue I’m having with the progressive pair of glasses.
