How To Clean Stainless Steel
When I first switched my appliances from the traditional black or white to the beautiful and elegant stainless steel counterparts all I could think was how beautiful. That was until those nasty fingerprints appeared. Thus began my search for the best way to clean stainless steel and get rid of those fingerprints.
Fingerprint Resistant Stainless Steel
If you have fingerprint resistant stainless steel you know that doesn’t mean you won’t see any fingerprints it just means there often aren’t as many and they do tend to be a little easier to clean. Fingerprint resistant is a surface treatment that reduces the appearance of fingerprints and smudges. This treatment is often called a “smudge-proof” finish. The treatment creates a smoother surface that is more resistant to the adhesion of oils and fingerprints.
Finding the Best Stainless Steel Cleaner
I tried so many different methods from traditional soap and water to specially formulated products that assured me they would work. I always ended up with streaks, it was like trying to clean windows all over again. My cleaning people did a great job once a month of getting it nice and shiny and streak-free but that only lasted for a couple of days before there were fingerprints again.
Stainless Steel Cleaning Wipes
Not sure why I decided to try another product but I found something that I LOVE. Something easy and works great. When I use it I end up with a spotless stainless steel refrigerator. My answer was Weiman Stainless Steel Wipes. These wipes work wonders. I also found that their spray works just as well and is sometimes a better option for smaller surfaces. This product can be found at any local grocery store or Walmart, or you can purchase it on Amazon.
Update 5/19/24: 10 years and a new refrigerator and stove later I still continue to clean stainless steel with these very same wipes and spray, it truly is the best and easiest way to clean stainless steel.
