The material felt substantial, the embellishments were put together well, and the lightweight wings stayed in place without needing constant adjustment.

Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays because there are so many ways to be creative. Between choosing costumes, decorating the house, and making easy Halloween Cricut crafts, the season gives everyone a chance to have a little fun. Still, a costume needs to do more than look good in photos. It should also be comfortable enough for a party, trick-or-treating, and the imaginative play that often continues long after Halloween has passed.

Choosing the Candy Fairy Costume

My daughter was trying to decide between two completely different costumes: one cute and one scary. She usually leaned toward less feminine costume choices, although she had started showing more interest in girly styles over the previous couple of years.

I was still surprised when she chose the Candy Fairy. Chasing Fireflies offered many unusual costumes, and this one was far more imaginative than a traditional fairy dress. The bright candy theme gave it a whimsical look without feeling like something we had seen in every local costume store.

The Candy Fairy Costume for Girls combines a colorful fairy design with candy-inspired details throughout the skirt. It was exactly the kind of costume that captured her personality at that age—fun, colorful, and a little unexpected.

What Comes With the Candy Fairy Costume?

The complete look shown in our photos includes the dress and several coordinating accessories. These pieces work beautifully together, but it is important to understand that the accessories are sold separately from the main costume.

The current Chasing Fireflies listing identifies the following items as not included with the dress:

  • Wings
  • Headband
  • Jewelry
  • Candy bag
  • Hot pink sparkle shoes

At the time of writing, only the coordinating wings and headband appear to be available for purchase through Chasing Fireflies. The jewelry, candy bag, and shoes shown in our photos are no longer offered as matching accessories on the website.

Selling the accessories separately gives parents some flexibility. A child who does not enjoy wearing jewelry, for example, does not need those pieces to make the costume feel complete. The wings add a great deal to the overall fairy look, while the other accessories can be chosen according to personal preference and budget.

Colorful Candy-Inspired Details

The colors are one of the costume’s strongest features. Bright shades of pink, blue, green, purple, and yellow are layered together without making the dress feel mismatched. The fluffy tulle skirt is decorated with dangling candy pieces that give it plenty of movement and texture.

There is a lot happening in the design, but the details work together. The striped bodice, layered skirt, candy accents, colorful tights, and coordinating accessories create a complete character rather than a basic fairy dress with a few decorations added to it.

The colors were every bit as vibrant in person as they appeared online. This was especially important because softer or duller colors would not have had the same playful effect.

Quality and Construction

Before receiving this costume, our Halloween options usually fell into one of two categories. I would make something myself that looked good for one night, or we would purchase an inexpensive costume from a party store. Neither option was generally made to withstand much use after Halloween.

The Candy Fairy costume felt different. The fabric was sturdy, the textures were attractive, and the decorations felt securely attached. It did not have the thin, disposable feeling that is common with many seasonal costumes.

That durability mattered because my daughter enjoyed playing dress-up throughout the year. A well-made costume could return to the dress-up collection after Halloween instead of being packed away and forgotten. With reasonable care, it was also the type of costume that could be passed down to a younger child.

Lightweight Wings That Stay in Place

The wings were one of my favorite parts of the entire costume. Most costume wings we had tried relied on Velcro or another attachment that allowed them to shift, sag, or fall out of place as soon as a child started moving.

These wings used straps that slipped over her arms. The straps were covered with soft satin, so they did not feel rough or rub against her skin. The wings were also light enough that she could move comfortably without feeling as though something heavy was pulling behind her.

Most importantly, they stayed where they belonged. She did not need to stop and straighten them every few minutes, and I did not have to spend the evening fixing them. It was a simple design difference, but it made the costume much easier to wear.

Another Chasing Fireflies Costume We Tried

Shortly after the Candy Fairy costume arrived, my daughter learned that her best friend’s Halloween party would have a scary theme. She immediately wished she had chosen the other costume she had been considering.

Chasing Fireflies was understanding and sent her second choice, the Puttin’ on the Ritz Skeleton Costume. It was a completely different style, with a black-and-white skeleton design, a layered tulle skirt, cuffs, spats, and a coordinating hat. Her favorite part was the hat, which pulled the entire look together.

She also made the costume her own by deciding not to wear the cuffs or spats. The outfit still looked complete without them, and I liked that she felt comfortable adjusting the pieces to suit her style.

That skeleton costume is no longer available, but our experience with it reinforced what we had already noticed about the Candy Fairy costume. Both were thoughtfully designed, well constructed, and sturdy enough to remain part of her dress-up collection after Halloween.

A Costume That Stood Out

The Candy Fairy costume was memorable because it combined a creative design with practical details. The colors were beautiful, the construction felt durable, and the wings stayed securely in place without being uncomfortable.

It also captured the playful side of Halloween that I have always loved. Paired with costumes, simple crafts, and glowing decorations such as DIY Halloween luminaries, it is those creative details that turn an ordinary October evening into a lasting family memory.
