Let me give you a little history of this momentous event for my family. I never wanted a family pet, a man’s best friend, a dog. When I was a teenager I was highly allergic. So for years my husband and children have wished, hoped, and tried their best to get me to allow them to get a dog. After 20 years I caved, yep in a moment of weakness, I said yes my son could get a dog! I’m not going to lie for the first couple of weeks I was full of stress and anxiety. I don’t know why my body reacts that way, I guess maybe from years of sneezing excessively when I was anywhere a dog was or had been.
Rex 5 1/2 months old
Fast forward one year, because yes we have had Rex over one year now. He entered our family, our home, and our hearts on September 30, 2018. My family has turned me into a dog person. While I initially had some allergy issues when Rex came came home they are all but gone now.
Rex 6 Months Old
Rex has become a member of our family and is loved by all, me included! In fact, my son and husband often say “Rex’s favorite human is Mom!” He does love to follow me most everywhere and is always waiting to sit by my side at night when it is time to relax. But he really loves everyone equally. He has his routines and knows everyone’s soft spots. Truthfully it is my husband who is wrapped around his little paw. Just one tilt of the head and a cute smile and my husband will do anything for Mr. Rex.
Rex Almost 1 Year Old
He is the perfect dog for us as he is a good inside dog, he is a people pleaser, and lover, and he LOVES joining us in the pool on the weekends. Seriously, the vet said she was surprised to learn that Rex loves the pool. She said pugs don’t usually enjoy the pool.
Rex The Pug Loves to Swim
They say pugs are stubborn and I wouldn’t disagree, however, they are very intelligent as well. Or at least Rex is, he knows when I get out the flush for his ears that it is time to run and hide (he hates having his ears cleaned out). He knows when the Ring goes off that someone is at the door. He knows that 10:15 is bedtime, and he knows that sometime between 5 and 6 pm it is time to eat. When he wants to eat he lets you know, or I should say he lets my husband know, by staring at him. He won’t let anyone pet him, he won’t lick you, he stares at you. Then he gets on top of you and peers over your shoulder at the bedroom where his food is. He is a smart doggy that Rex!
As you can see he is quite the ham and has the best personality. He is so excited to see you when you come home and he loves to play.
Rex at 8 Months old
I admit it, I love Rex and am happy he has become part of the Shibley Smiles family.
