Celebrating Christmas in July
Christmas is such a joyful time of the year. It is a time when families get together and celebrate their holiday beliefs, enjoy each other’s company, and consume all kinds of tasty treats. It is also such a memorable occasion and helps create lasting memories for your family. It is a shame that for some families this is the only time of the year they get together. So this year we encourage you to partake in Christmas in July!
What is Christmas in July
Christmas in July, also known as Christmas in Summer or Christmas in Winter, is a second Christmas celebration held on 25 July. So what can you do to celebrate without going full-blown Christmas crazy?
Decorating
I love decorating my home with the Christmas spirit. 75% of my attic space is nothing but plastic bins of Christmas decorations. While it would be a lot to pull out all those Christmas decorations it is fun to do a little decorating and get the family together for a special Christmas in July.
Tabletop Christmas Tree
Add a little bit of Christmas spirit around your home with tabletop Christmas trees. No need to drag out the 9-foot tree instead opt for small trees placed in a few rooms. No need to go through all your ornaments pick up a few Christmas ornament sets at your favorite online Christmas store. Or if you are lucky enough to live near a year-round Christmas store it is the perfect place to shop for Christmas in July decorations.
Window Decorations
Window clings are easy to put up and easy to take down. Transform your windows into a winter wonderland, Santa’s workshop, or garland and ornaments. Whatever you choose this is a great way to decorate without the take-down hassle after the day is over.
Homemade Decorations
Take this time to spend a little time with your children and create fun and personalized decorations that you can incorporate afterward into your true Christmas decorations each year. This way you have new decorations for Christmas in July and are expanding your traditional Christmas decoration collections. Not to mention the memories you are creating. Some fun DIY Christmas decoration ideas:
- Glass ornaments filled with sand and tiny shells
- Faux snow lanterns
- Christmas wreath
- Creative picture displays
- Personalize a picture frame
- Paint wooden ornaments
Decide on a Christmas in July Theme
You don’t have to go the traditional route of red & green and pine trees. Pick a new theme each year and run with it. For example, since it’s July bring the beach to your Christmas with gingerbread cookies adorned with bathing suits. Opt for a Palm Tree instead of a traditional Christmas tree. Weave some Christmas lights through a garland of shells. Here are some other fun themes:
- Festive Flamingos
- Happy Hawaiian Luau
- Beach Blessings
- Pineapple Party
- Merry Margaritaville
Invite Your Family & Friends
Most importantly invite your family & friends to your Christmas in July celebration. Exchange gifts, or make it fun with a White Elephant gift exchange. Make it a potluck and have each guest bring a dish in honor of your party theme. Whether you decide to do a little decorating or throw a huge party the point of Christmas in July is to have a good time with your family & friends and create lasting memories.
