The bedroom plays an important role in domestic life. It’s here that you’ll be spending around a third of your time, at the very least. Given the importance of good sleep, it’s critical that you develop an environment that’s conducive to relaxation and stress-busting. And that’s before we even consider that you might be using your bedroom for other things, like work, study, and leisure. Keeping the space tidy is of paramount importance. Let’s look at a few organizational tips for your bedroom.
Use furniture to your advantage
The chances are good that your bedroom space will be dominated by a few key pieces of furniture, the most obvious of which is the bed. If you’re able to make these items double up as storage solutions, then you’ll be able to eliminate clutter elsewhere in the space. You might install racks that can be wheeled out from under your bed. You might consider an Ottoman bed that can be lifted up on pneumatic supports. Consider getting fitted wardrobes installed, as these will help you make the best use of even the most awkward of spaces.
Declutter every quarter
The act of decluttering can be enormously beneficial. It can be therapeutic, too. You’ll drag out all of those little items you’re no longer using and throw them away. If you do this every three months or so, then you’ll have a habit that will prevent clutter from accumulating in the first place. If you’re worried about the prospect of accidentally parting with something precious, then you might set aside a special box for keepsakes and small items of sentimental value.
Allocate spaces
Everything in your bedroom should be put in its right place. If you know where everything should go, then you’ll be able to resist the short-term temptation to simply store everything in a random location. You might make a mental note, write out a list, or get busy with a label maker, such that every drawer, box, and compartment has an obvious use.
Quick tidy every day
Tidying, ideally, shouldn’t involve a monumental one-off effort. Rather, it should be a habit that’s performed every day. Spend five minutes here and there battling back the clutter, and you’ll be rewarded with a space that’s more organized and effective. This might be a difficult habit to form, particularly if you’re not naturally inclined towards tidiness. But building up this habit is a lot like going to the gym: you’ll need to force yourself to do it every day, at the same time, until, after a few weeks, the routine is so ingrained that you begin to feel slightly strange when you fail to do it.
