The first time I hard about Walmart’s Online Grocery shopping was when I co-worker of mine was in town visiting. She had to pick up a few things and instead of going in to do her shopping she place an order and went down and picked it up. I thought that sounded like such a time saver, and I’m always looking for ways to save time. I immediately got online at walmart.com/grocery and entered my zip code. DARN it was not in my area.
One day my daughter and I were shopping at Walmart and she noticed a sign about “buying groceries online” . I was excited to find when I got home that day I found that our area was now setup for online grocery shopping. I’ll be honest, I am not a fan of grocery shopping and have always said I wish someone could do my shopping and deliver it to my door. Walmart’s Online Grocery service is the next best thing!
Walmart’s Online Grocery
Yey! Now that I had this option I began to wonder if I really wanted to order my groceries online. My first thought was, will the prices online be marked up and higher than those at the store to help pay for this service. However I found that the prices were exactly the same. My next thought was what if I don’t get an item, or they don’t give me the right item. Well you don’t know unless you try it my mother always says. So I spent that Saturday putting items into my cart. The great thing was I could ask the kids as I was working on my grocery list. My daughter loves to pack her lunch for school and my son is always looking for snacks when he gets home from school.
You can choose your groceries by selecting a department or searching for an item. Here I have searched for the term: lunchables and it returned several results. What I really love about Walmart’s Online Grocery option is that I can put items in my cart all week as I think about them and they will be sitting their waiting for me to check out.
Once you are done and ready to place your order you simply click “Book Now” from their it will take you to a screen of available pick up dates. Due to the popularity of the service they assign time slots so they don’t have everyone coming at once and have the room and personnel to do the grocery shopping. I found that the time I would have liked to pick up my order on Sunday was taken so I schedule it an hour earlier 8-9am. You have a one hour time slot to pick up your items. You will receive a call about 15 minutes before your time slot to let you know your order is ready. They ask that you call them about 10 minutes before you are going to arrive so they can get your freezer and refrigerator items ready. Note: You do put in your credit card at the time you check out.
Once you arrive at the store you call again to let them know you are there and they wheel your groceries out to the car. I noticed that a few of the bags had labels on them such as “fragile” for my bread and there was one labeled substitute. One of the items I had ordered was not in stock but they felt there was another item close to that item so they picked it up for me. I had the option to decline the substituted item or accept it.
After picking up our order and heading back home I couldn’t believe the amount of time the Walmart Online Grocery was saving us. Still a little worried about getting all my items the kids and I checked our list against what we received and it was 100% accurate. I love the service so much we used it the next week. When I went to pick up my next order they informed me that one of the things I had ordered was out of stock. The item was removed from my receipt and the amount that was withdrawn from my account was minus the one item.
The third time I went to use the service I waited too long on Saturday to place my order and the morning time slots were full. Since I didn’t want to be doing my shopping at 6pm on Sunday evening this past weekend we did have to do our shopping at the store. The lesson I learned is if you want to take advantage of this service it is best to get your order placed earlier in the week. The nice thing is they give you a time frame in which you can change your order. For example when I placed my order on Friday I had until 1am on Sunday morning to make any changes. Maybe the smart thing is to start an order and book your time and then finish it when you have all that you need!
Right now if you are a first time customer you can get $10 off your order of $50 or more. I can vouch that this works because I used it on my first order. You can save additional money by referring your friends and family.
In addition to these savings and the time saving of ordering online if you use the Walmart Savings Catcher (which I highly recommend) you can still use it with this service. You will receive your receipt via email after you sign for the order when you pick it up. On the receipt is the Savings Catcher number that you can add to your Savings Catcher account and viola! Extra savings. I’ve currently saved $389.10 in a year and a half using the app!
Now that the kids are back and school and I’m sure your schedule is as busy as ever with after school activities it is nice to know that Walmart is here to save you precious time to be doing more important things like watching your child hit that home run! Walmart is the perfect place to pick up all that you need to pack a healthy lunch and stock up on after school snacks!
