Looking around my home it is no secret that I like HP products such as the HP Envy 20, HP Chromebook, and HP Envy 120 Printer. All of these are great products. However I must admit the HP Pavilion TouchSmart Sleekbook definitely takes the cake.
When I heard that the HP Pavilion TouchSmart Sleekbook was a touchscreen laptop I couldn’t wait to try it out. However I did have to wait. This is because the lucky recipient of this new laptop was my, now 14 year old, son. He received the gift as a birthday present after years of asking me each Christmas and birthday for a laptop. He was already very familiar with how the laptop work since the HP Envy 20 that we have is the kids main computer. However if he didn’t there is always the opportunity to attend a live HP Show and Tech where you can see and ask questions about HP products.
HP Pavilion TouchSmart Sleekbook Features
- Large 14″ screen
- Intel Celeron B877 Processor
- 4GB Memory
- 500GB Hard Drive
- Touchscreen
- Windows 8
What would you expect to pay for all of this? A sleek and light computer yet powerful? You will not believe this but it is currently priced at only $348 at Walmart. This price is so good I’m considering purchasing one for my older son as well. My kids are very tech savvy and if the computer does not have enough power it is not going to be able to keep up with them. Before deciding to give this to my son I took the time to read all the specifics and was very impressed with all that was included for such a low price. In fact, the only thing missing is a CD/DVD Drive but I know I can purchase an external one if I need to.
If you have not experienced Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 yet, you will be in for a big change, but a nice one once you get use to it. You can access Windows 8 from the start up screen that is a colorful block of windows that you can rearrange to your liking. (Note to mention you can customize the color and background as well, I just love things with tons of customizable options).
Or as a desktop screen which is what you are probably use too.
With Windows 8 you can download apps similar to smartphones both free and paid. We downloaded Firefox and a few others. You can download games such as Angry Birds, and customize your start screen to include all your favorite apps. There is a ton of space too, if you swipe from side to side you will see additional space and more apps. The system is already equipped with many popular apps such as iHeart Radio, Netflix, and more!
So the real test is, did my son like it? At first he didn’t seem to thrilled, which I was surprised. I think he was expecting some XBox gifts. However it only took a little bit of time before he was smiling from ear to ear. He kept coming up to me saying, “I LOVE my laptop!”. I often find him like this…
I really think that you can’t beat the price for this laptop. It has everything you would need unless you are a massive gamer that needs a top of the line graphics card or you run some hardware that takes an amazing about of RAM to process. For the college student, working mom, blogger, or every day computer user this is the perfect solution. I also love that you have the HP Show and Tech at your disposal. Check out some of the older videos or check out some upcoming chats.
