It is hard to believe the kids have been back to school now for little over a month. How time flies! I really enjoy when the kids go back to school, not for the reasons you may think. My schedule is pretty much the same with the kids in or out of school. The reason I love when they go back to school is they are no longer glued to their iPads and iPhones watching videos all day. Once back in school the kids are challenged to start thinking and absorbing new knowledge. My daughter may say she doesn’t “like” school but I know that she enjoys the learning and being around her friends.
STEM Education
When I first heard the term “STEM” I wasn’t exactly sure what it meant. Then I learned that it meant science, technology, engineering and mathematics. When I found this out I thought of not only myself but my oldest son and my daughter. We have always leaned toward the mathematical side of learning. If you ask my daughter what her favorite subject is she will tell you it is Math. I think because it comes easy to her, she enjoys it. Believe it or not I myself majored in Engineering when I went to college. I did change my major later on to computers, but as you can see I still lean towards the STEM type classes.
One of our favorite projects my daughter and I did together was a DIY doorbell.
While we find many men and boys that enjoy STEM type projects and classes I think it important that our women and girls know that they are just as capable in the field. I’m proud that my daughter enjoys math and technology as much as I do.
One thing all my children have in common is a love for technology. From their iPads and iPhones to fun gadgets like the Rover2.0 Wireless Tank. When you have children that love technology as much as you do, do you know what you always have a lot of?…..BATTERIES! That cute doorbell above wouldn’t work without a battery.
We are always have batteries on hand, AA batteries, AAA batteries, 9-volt and more. It seems that we always are needing batteries for something. In fact, just recently you may have heard of Hurricane Irma? Well here in the ENTIRE state of Florida we heard, and we prepared. Never have I seen a storm where the entire state felt winds from one storm. When preparing for a Hurricane you will find short supplies in water, gas, and batteries. Thankfully we were well prepared at the Shibley Smiles because I prepared before the storm was headed our way. With flashlight for everyone, lanterns, clocks, and a radio we were ready. What is the one thing these all have in common? Batteries, yep having battery operated anything during a storm is your life line.
Energizer® All in One Flashlight
I realized this year that there will come a day when my children are not all under one roof, either off to college or living on their own. In fact my son’s girlfriend is currently living in Orlando while she goes to school. This made me think how important it is for my son, and other children, to know what is needed in times of emergency. I decided that we should put together an emergency kit for his girlfriend as well as himself should he not be home
Emergency Kit
- Flashlight
- First aid kit
- Battery operated radio
- Can opener
- Rain poncho
- Extra Energizer® batteries
These are many of the items you should have during a Hurricane but are also important items to have in case of any emergency.
As you can see Energizer® is an important component in both STEM activities and products that help our children learn, build, and secure our future as well as keeping our children and families safe!
This post was sponsored by Energizer®, however all opinions are my own.
