I am slowly on the mend from my planter fasciitis and am looking forward to getting back to walking and possibly running. In fact I just bought a new pair of orthopedic shoes to help in my recovery. One thing I’ve learned in the last couple months is how important it is to take of your body including your feet for optimal comfort. Trust me it is no fun when your feet hurt often. Not just ache but hurt, it makes for an uncomfortable day. So with that I’m going to give you my personal tips on staying healthy during your training.
Running Tips
- Stretch – This is definitely an important step that many people chose not to do for sake of time. However it is important to loosen up those muscles before you start using them. This is one of the things I’m currently doing to help my condition. I stretch 3-4 times and I’m mainly hitting the calf muscle.
- Shoes – While shoes range fro $19.99-to well into the hundreds I urge you to research and find the right shoe for you. I just recently purchased a pair of Orthaheel athletic shoes to help support my weak arch. I have a pair of Orthaheel sandals and they are awesome.
- Take Your Time – When starting out a routine for the first time there is no need to give it 110%. Take it slow and do a little at a time until you can work up to what you are trying to accomplish. For new runners I strongly recommend a Couch to 5K time program. If you push to hard you may find it hard and quit before you begin or worse injure yourself.
- Drink Water – I can not run without water. I hate carrying a bottle with me but I gulp it down and is necessary in the hot Florida sun.
