It’s safe to assume that most of us play at least one game regularly on our smart devices. With ages ranging from children as young as two to senior adults looking for a fun game, it’s no wonder there are an abundance of games available. There are candy swapping games, trivia of all kinds, even those where we send pigs flying at birds. I’m sure you have your favorite style, but have you ever played a game that changed the world? That’s the goal of Zig Zag Zoom’s Tree Story. Available on iOS and Android, Tree Story is a way to do good while you’re having fun!
Tree Story App
Tree Story was created by former Disney Interactive artists and game designers to appeal to all age groups. Players care for a virtual tree seedling in each stage as it develops into a fully grown tree. Once the tree reaches maturity, a real tree is planted in the world with the help of partners such as The U.S. Forest Service, The Nature Conservancy, ACTrees – which represents over 350 local tree planting organizations, and Arbor Day Foundation.

The next option was to choose where I wanted to plant my seedling. My choices were Brazil, Washington, and Illinois. I picked Illinois and was shown some information on the River Restoration campaign in Havana that I would be helping. This area is part of the Emiquon National Wildlife Refuge and prone to flooding, trees help tremendously with that.
The next stage was learning how to care for my seedling. Along the top of the game shows the seedling’s “stats” including water, food, sunlight. With these, the fuller the stats are, the healthier and happier your tree is. I was prompted to use the watering can as well as purchase food to give my tree. An actual tree might scoff at being offered cheese or croissant, but Coney the virtual tree gobbled them up. There are many other food options to choose from. I was soon level two and received an achievement reward of coins that I can then use to buy more food or anything else my seedling needs to grow into a healthy tree.
I made sure to give him plenty of sunlight and then it was game time. Play games with your trees to make sure they stay happy. Games give you the opportunity to earn more coins. Earn achievements, play games, and watch videos to get more coins. Of course, you can also purchase them.
As you complete and gain levels, new items such as the closet and pruning become available. It only took a little time and Coney grew into a sapling. There are many other features to explore including The Grove where you can talk to your tree and take pictures to share. I’m excited to continue playing and watch as Coney develops into a fully grown tree. Trees are beneficial to the planet in so many ways and I’m happy to contribute by playing this fun game!
