When you think of your bedroom what do you think of? I can tell you what it drums up in my mind. I catch all for anything that doesn’t have a place. A quickly put together room where anything goes decorated with the leftovers. Anything but relaxing! However I was challenged recently by Sleep Number Bed to create my perfect Sleep Haven. I took the task very seriously. The first task was to pick out a number of Sleep Number products to center my Sleep Haven around.
My husband and I visited the Sleep Number store nearest us recently to get a tour, try out the beds, and get some great information. I’m hoping to post a formal review of our chosen Sleep Number Bed in the coming months after we have had the opportunity to use our Sleep Number Bed to its fullest. We chose the Sleep Number i10
To create a relaxing sleep (as if the Sleep Number Bed doesn’t already do that on its own) we chose one of the new AirFit pillows. We (or I for us) chose the AirFit White Goose Down Pillow based on the customer reviews. I also chose the Sleep Number Performance Sheets in Dune for an earthy feel. So what is an AirFit pillow you might be wondering?
Our exclusive Sleep Number® AirFitTM Adjustable Pillow combines the support and comfort of air with adjustability, to provide the most personalized sleep experience possible. You can adjust the AirFitTM Pillow based on your individual sleeping position, size and shape. The AirFitTM Pillow can change with you as your sleep needs change. European White Goose Down surrounds the air chamber for the ultimate luxury. Resilient down clusters for exceptionally high loft and improved support for maximum comfort. Hypoallergenic down is free of dust and allergy-causing impurities. Extra-soft 300-thread-count 100% Egyptian cotton cover. Easy to use – pillow self-inflates with the twist of a dial! Note: This pillow provides a firmer/more supportive sleeping experience than a traditional down pillow.
With our new accessories it was time to turn my, catch all bedroom into my own Sleep Haven. First lets check out some before photos.
So you can see we got the treadmill (that is rarely used) off in the corner because we don’t want to store it in the garage in case we DO want to use it. While the photo above the bed is a collage of the family it is way too small for the large space. Everyone has a clothes rack, in our room it is the desk chair. It would be nice to have the desk out all together but I recently moved it into the room for a place for me to organize my business items.
What I really wanted to create was a relaxing and soothing place to lay my head down, read a book, or when I am in my “office” (for lack of a better word). When I think of relaxing there is ONE word that always comes to mind. THE BEACH. The beach has always been a part of my life and holds many memories from my past. My bathroom is currently decorated in a beach theme utilizing the blues, tans, and dark browns. I thought I was going to carry this through to my bedroom though I wasn’t really keen on the dark brown with our oak furniture.
However things do not always go the way you plan. While shopping for my Sleep Haven accessories I came across a bedding set that I thought would look perfect with the oak yet still incorporate the feel of the beach. Our Sleep Number Bed was delivered this past Saturday, so I don’t have much to reveiw regarding the bed itself as we are still getting use to it and tampering with the sleep numbers to get them just right. We are also currently waiting for some “legs” to the bed. In the photos it is about 4 inches lower then it will be when the legs are installed, but not to worry you can still see my overall “beach” transformation.
To help paint a picture I’m going to well…..show you the pictures. Then I’m going to explain why I chose the pieces I did for my Sleep Haven and how I incorporated the memories of my past into my room in a way that is unnoticeable to most. I absolutely am in LOVE with my new Sleep Haven.

Instead of the tan, blue, brown bedding set I went with a more sage, tan, and cream. Perfect to still tie in the beach but relaxing and more suitable to the oak furniture. I replaced the knick knacks on my nightstand with some perfectly themed items, a sound machine to bring in the sound of the beach very relaxing and soothing. The digital picture frame is set to go on at 7am and turn off at 10 and rotate through about two dozen beach photos. The glass bowl is full of sand, shells, and here is where the memories come in. The stones within the bowl were picked from the Great Lakes when my family and I walked the beach after my father’s passing. One of my memories of the beach were when my father use to take us during the summer and taught me how to skip stones on the lake. I followed up with some light sheer curtains to bring more color into my Sleep Haven.
My dresser normally a place for folded clothes and everything cleaned off of the dining room table now boost a very relaxing display of items. The plant is a cream container with sea grass and some small white flowers. I LOVE hour glasses and thought the one pictured full of white sand would be perfect nestled in between to pillars reminding you to relax and believe. One of my favorite finds is the candle and stone dish, with the three words faith, love, and hope. I replaced the candle with a flameless candle so I could enjoy the flame with no danger of the kids knocking it over.
I adorned my desk with a cute little lamp with one of my favorite sayings “Live, Love, Laugh”. Above the desk is a shelf with four squares nestled into each other. Decorated with beach themed items I have placed around the candle (again flameless) some more of the stones from the Great Lakes as well as some beach glass. One of my FAVORITE things to do at the beach in the summer with my dad was to walk up and down the beach looking for beach glass.
Above my husband’s night stand I moved my favorite photo “the heart in the sand” just a little something to say I love you. We have yet to find anything we like to go over the bed so for now the space is empty. I also purchased a plugin scent warmer in “Sand Castle” to help give the over all feeling of the beach. As you can see the colors are relaxing and peaceful and I have brought in memories of my past to decorate my new Sleep Haven.
To help me relax in this beautiful room I often find the best thing for me to do at night is take a hot bath. This is usually a ritual my daughter and I have (while she is young) and helps her calm down and get ready for bed as well. Here are my own personal tips for creating your own Sleep Haven.
- Pick a theme that is relaxing to you (beach, music, etc) and work your accents and bedding around that color.
- I don’t like to light candles while I sleep or am away from the room, so I like to purchase the flameless candles as they give off a glow but I don’t have to worry about the danger of fire when I’m not in the room (or if you have kids)
- A sound machine is great for relaxing (especially waves at the beach)
- Accent your walls with photos that are relaxing and relate to your theme
- Use popuri baskets or decorative air fresheners to add a light and relaxing aroma.
- Curtains and valances are a great way to add color to your Sleep Number Haven (if you live where you can’t paint)
- If you can paint chose a wall to add accent color to your room.
- Install a ceiling fan to add a light relaxing breeze, if possible try to get one that fits well with your theme.
- Declutter your Sleep Haven by keeping books, glasses, remotes, etc. In a nightstand or use a bedside caddy.
- The more you love how your Sleep Haven looks and feel the better you will sleep and the more you will enjoy being in it.
My husband and I have enjoyed our new room so far and I absolutely LOVE my AirFit pillow. Where I use to toss and turn trying to get my pillow just right my AirFit IS just right. I prefer a softer pillow so I’ve let some of the air out and stopped the flow so it is just the right “squishy” for me. My husband just started using his and I’ve yet to get a verdict from him. We are also getting use to the feel of the sheets, they are very silky and different then your normal cotton sheet. I intend to have a better review of the items once we have had the opportunity to use them for a longer period of time.
So now it is YOUR TURN to create your own Sleep Haven. Sleep Number has put together some great tips to help you get started: Sleep Number Bedroom Haven. While supplies last grab a coupon for a Free Illume Candle the prefect start to your new Sleep Haven.
This opportunity presented to me by Sleep Number has really helped me create a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere that makes me smile when I enter my room. I’m envisioning no more dressers topped with folded clothes or a “catch all room” it is too pretty to clutter up. Thank you Sleep Number for helping me create the perfect “Sleep Haven”!
Just wanted to leave you with a side by side of my before and after photo!
