So I mentioned a week ago that I had a consultation about my laser hair removal treatment at Body Details. Since then I have had my first visit. I definitely was a little nervous going in, mainly because until I experienced the treatment I had no idea really what to expect. I honestly had no idea what laser hair removal really was (other then of course removing my hair in some fashion). I was given a few tips before my visit like to stay out of the sun, no caffeine, and if you would like you can take some ibuprofen or equivalent 45 minutes before the treatment. I was a little early but everyone was right on schedule I didn’t wait at all to get in. Sarah brought me back to the room and I was surprised to see a television for my viewing pleasure. Honestly I never watched a thing. Sarah was so friendly that we talked during the entire treatment and that really put me at ease.
For the most part it really wasn’t that bad, just a cool shot of air on my skin. The laser, while hot, is followed so quickly by a burst of cool air that it didn’t feel hot at all. For the most part that is, it definitely is a little less comfortable closer to more sensitive areas. It was tolerable to me, however each person has their own level of what they can tolerate. It was all over much quicker then I would have thought. Despite the few uncomfortable spots it really wasn’t that bad. It was also good to know that each laser hair removal treatment would get easier. The reason for the discomfort has to do with how coarse your hair is.
Knowing what to expect next time will make the next appointment that much easier. I was given some Hydrocortisone cream in case I experienced any discomfort or red bumps but overall I was told everything should be pretty good within 24 hours. Sarah was great at explaining to me what she was doing, why she was doing it, and what to expect. She asked me several times if I had any questions, or how I was during the treatments. Each individual is different so each experience is different. Where it could take one person 4 treatments to have the hair completely gone it could take another longer. I was surprised to hear my next appointment wouldn’t be for 8 weeks.
What to Expect
- Some discomfort, mainly over sensitive skin areas (depending on what body part you are having done)
- Possible red bumps or mild discomfort afterwards (I personally did not experience this)
- Things not to look totally different with the first visit
I say don’t expect things to look different because you aren’t going to leave with super smooth skin and totally hairless where you had the treatment. The laser hair removal cuts off the blood supply to the root. The root will then go through a shedding phase is it pushes through your skin. It is after all the treatments that you will have the wanted results, smooth skin, and NO SHAVING!
