I love trying out new iPhone and iPad apps, sometimes I will just browse the store looking for something interesting and intriguing. I recently was introduced to a new FREE iPhone app called HP Live Photo. It does exactly what it says. It brings your card, invite, etc. to Life. I absolutely love it.
I selected an old video I had of my daughter showing me that she could jump in the pool and go under the water.
The app will then search the video to pull up freeze frames. The frame you chose will be the image on your card.
Once you’ve selected your photo you can chose a frame. You can either chose one from the “featured” borders or you can narrow down your choice by category, such as birthday, thank you, etc.
I chose a cute colorful one since the video wasn’t a specific event such as an invite, birthday, or anniversary.
Once the video and card is created you can share it several ways. You can print and mail the card, share via facebook, or email the photo.
Lets say you mail the photo to your mother-in-law. As long as she has an iPhone and has downloaded the HP Live Photo she will be able to take the card you have mailed and scan it with the iPhone, using the app (there is a view button in the app). The card will literally come to life on her phone. The phone will recognize the HP Live Photo icon in the bottom right hand corner. She will see the card and the photo will work within the border of the card. It is so cool looking.
If you have an iPhone you can download the app and scan the photo below and you will see the video come to life. What a fun way to send birthday cards, miss you cards, love you cards, and more!

“Augmented reality is the new medium for bringing the physical world to digital life and HP Live Photo puts the power of this technology into the hands of everyday consumers,” said Annie Weinberger, general manager, Aurasma, an HP Company. “Not only does HP Live Photo heighten the intrigue and surprise of receiving a printed greeting card, but for the first time mobile videos live on beyond the digital world making them truly part of the physical world as well.”
HP Live Photos can be shared by email, Facebook or by printing to any AirPrint-enabled printer1. Every HP Live Photo will include a blue origami icon designating it as a HP Live Photo
