As a Fresh From Florida Ambassador my husband and I were treated to a very yummy dinner last month. The timing couldn’t have been better since my husband birthday was December 31st. Since we were both of the week in between Christmas and New Year’s we decided to make our way down to Delray Beach on December 26th to visit Deck84.
My husband and I rarely get out to eat on our own. I know it is something we should try to do more often. For the longest time we didn’t have a sitter, however now that my oldest son is 16 we are able to let him take on a little responsibility so that we can enjoy each other alone.
We headed down to Deck84, it took us about an hour to get there. Down town Delray was hoping, I don’t know if it was the holidays or that is normal for a Thursday evening. The restaurant was right on the water and due to the limited parking we had to valet the car. We were able to get seated right away and though we chose to sit inside we did get a table by the window so we had a veiw of the water. Deck84 has outdoor seating right on the water which I think would make for a great fall lunch or even that night with the Christmas lights it was beautiful.
We gave them our drink and appetizer order and browsed the menu looking for something that sounded interesting and delicious. Deck84 is one of the restaurants that includes a Fresh From Florida menu. This means that the food was grown or caught right here in our great state!
Any food that is part of the Fresh from Florida menu was marked with the symbol above. There were several choices, several of them being seafood. I decided to get the Southwest Chicken Salad (minus the corn and tomatoes)
Southwest Chicken Salad
Roasted corn, black beans, vine ripe tomatoes, avocado, cheddar-jack cheese, bbq glazed chicken, crispy tortilla strips, pesto-buttermilk dressing
My husband decided to go with the fish of the day. I wish I could tell you what the fish was but for the life of me I can not remember. I do know that while he was telling us what the meal entailed he mentioned that the fish was caught right here in Florida and could even be found in the waters outside the restaurant in Delray.
I was really impressed with my salad. I would have never thought of a BBQ sauce on a salad but it combined with the buttermilk dressing and crispy tortilla chips it was just delicious. My husband enjoyed his fish but it was probably a little small for his appetite. I really enjoyed the fact that what I was eating was tied to the state I love. Yes I may not be Florida born but I am a true Floridian in my heart!
