You wake up and look at your clock and think just five more minutes! No rest for you, you are a parent. You need to get up and get ready, get the kids up, push them along to get ready and take them to school while you rush to get to work on time and start your work day. While they are at school learning, playing and preparing for the future and you are at work earning money to support your family. Week days and weekends become a whirl wind of homework, cooking, cleaning, family time, lessons to teach and more. During all of this you think to yourself….Am I doing everything right? Am I a good parent?
As parents we put a high standard on ourselves and often beat ourselves up when we feel like we have failed our children, if they aren’t acting as you think, or they are being stubborn and not listening. Have you ever wondered what your children think of you? Do they think you are mean because you have rules? Do they value all that you do? Do they think you are a good parent?
If you are a parent you have to watch this video below from Office Depot OfficeMax. Let me fore warn you, this video will make you smile and make you feel good but have a tissue with you because if you are sappy like me you are going to need it.
Ever Wonder How Your Kids View You
As parents it is our job to teach our child the tools they need to lead a healthy and rewarding life. I often wonder if I have given them the necessary tools. Videos like this one by Office Depot OfficeMax help me remember that I am not perfect but I am a good parent because I love my children and do all that I can to help them be great.
One way to inspire your kids to be great is to get them excited about back-to-school. Sometimes that isn’t easy but I think deep down kids do enjoy school. My daughter couldn’t wait to get back to school. I help keep her on track by asking about her day and helping her with any homework. One thing she has to do is daily reading. My children are more math minded then reading so sometimes this is a challenge. So I spend the 30 minutes each night needed to listen to my daughter read. This way she gets a little me time and her reading done all in one.
My youngest son was definitely not all that excited about school however it seems that this is his year. He has really turned over a new leaf and enjoys his schedule and many of his teachers. I think he has become inspired by one in particular and has given thought to not only what he wants to do after school but how he spends his down time. He recently nixed his video game to be more active and spend time with the family.
My best advice for new and seasoned moms is to get creative with the time you have with your children. It doesn’t always have to be go, go, go and finding something to do. Sometimes reading a book, watching a movie, or just asking how their day was goes a long way to inspire them to be great! I encourage you to share the above video with any parent you know, I’m sure they could use the vote of confidence.
