Do you have anything that it seems no matter what brand or product you buy it either breaks or doesn’t work well? My husband and I have two such things DVD players and vacuum cleaners. The DVD player is another time and another story altogether.
Recently the three vacuum cleaners we had decided to go on a permanent vacation. To be fair I will admit that we never “invested” in a proper vacuum cleaner. Two of the vacuums we use to own were small, cheap models. The third was actually an expensive name-brand however its problem was simply old age.
I knew it was time to get a new vacuum when the last of the three that was actually working got sick and promptly spit out its contents after a quick jaunt around my bedroom. Either that or it didn’t appreciate cleaning up the beautiful glitter and sand my daughter had left for it. The truth is we already knew it was going downhill and just hadn’t taken the time or wanted to spend the money on a new one. We knew after several years of cheap vacuums it was time to invest in a good one. It really is the cheaper alternative in the long run. One nice vacuum cleaner is better than the 5 cheap ones.
Knowing absolutely not a thing about vacuum cleaners I had no idea what to get. So instead of blindly purchasing one and hoping that we liked I researched. What is the best way to research such a thing? Well, I would have to say it is mommy blogs and bloggers. Yes, the very profession that I myself enjoy I knew from experience was the best place to do my research. So I visited some blogs and asked in some forums what type of vacuum cleaner was recommended.
The answer was overwhelmingly almost one-sided. “Dyson Rocks!” was the majority of the responses I received. Even my co-worker, when I mentioned getting a new vacuum, suggested the brand ahead of other popular manufacturers. With as many comments and opinions, I was sold. So a Dyson was what we got. We now have a Dyson DC25 All Floors.

Why was this the Dyson we chose? For several reasons but the number one reason was that both my son and I have allergies and dust is the #1 enemy on our allergy list of “Most Annoying Allergens”. The Dyson DC25 has the Dyson ball patented Cyclone technology and a washable lifetime HEPA filter. I love that there are no bags, belts, or filters to buy with this vacuum which again just backs up my original claim that it is better to invest your money on a high-quality product that in the end, ends up being the less expensive option.
In addition to the hypoallergenic features that the Dyson DC25 provides for us the “All Floors” was also a very important key in our decision. Living in South Florida you will find the majority of homes are either all tiled or a mix of tiled and carpeted floors. Ours is the latter. We are about 50/50 with the bedrooms and living room carpeted and the kitchen, bathrooms, family, and foyer area tiled. This makes it important for us to have a vacuum that will work on both types of flooring.

So you may now be asking how does our new Dyson DC25 work? All I can say is, I will never go back to cheap vacuums again. I “heart” my Dyson. My hubby was the first one to give it a whirl and vacuumed our living room. We were shocked at how much dirt it picked up. It just made me cringe thinking that there was that much dirt in my living room even though it had just been vacuumed with the “sick” vacuum a few days earlier. My husband actually made the comment that this vacuum might be “Too Powerful for Us”. He was joking of course but he showed me why he said it. The owners of our home (we rent) when they carpeted the bedrooms did not put that nice little strip that usually covers where the carpet meets the tile. When my husband vacuumed over that area a small string of the carpet was exposed it and it literally just ripped the string away. You know kind of like when you pull on a loose thread and it unravels. This minor incident only goes to show you further the suction power of the DC25.
The other interesting feature of the DC25 is the maneuverability of the vacuum. It is a little strange at first to get used to but once you get the hang of it you can see how useful it can be. The motor is inside the lightweight ball giving the vacuum a low center of gravity making it easy to use. Unlike the traditional ‘wheeled” vacuums the ball on the Dyson allows you to maneuver the vacuum and does not require you to vacuum in a boring straight line.

Another really nice feature, because I haven’t yet bragged enough about this vacuum cleaner, is the ease of emptying the canister. Both of our previous vacuum cleaners were bagless and had containers that needed to be emptied however nothing can compare to how easy it is to empty the canister on the Dyson DC25. At first, my husband wasn’t really sure what he needed to do (you know men never read directions), but he found that it was super easy. You detach the canister and with the push of a button the bottom opens and the dirt and dust just falls into the garbage can.

I also mentioned earlier but will mention it again because it is super awesome, you will never need to buy a filter for this vacuum because the HEPA filter is washable and should last a lifetime. As I’m typing up my review my husband said, “You need to mention that it works really good on the tiled floors too.” Now how many of you can get such a review out of your husband? I hope more can than can not. My husband was definitely the “main” reviewer on this item, and for that I’m thankful. Man, I love my husband.
Just this evening we got a chance to try out the attachment when once again my husband was using the new vacuum. We were moving Nick into his new room and my husband wanted to clean along with the baseboards. So he pulled out the brush-type attachment and I totally love how the attachments are put together. In my past experience with vacuum cleaners, the attachment hose is always in the way or eventually just doesn’t stay in place. With the Dyson DC25, the handle basically turns into the attachment hose giving you an easy handle to maneuver.

Overall my husband and I are extremely pleased with the DC25 and would highly recommend it to anyone looking to invest in a vacuum that will do its job for years to come. Note: The vacuum does also come with attachments for upholstery cleaning however we have not yet gotten the chance to use them, this too was an important feature when selecting the vacuum for us.
