It is been a while since I updated you on my laser hair removal journey. I’m coming to the end of my treatment and wanted to give you some final thoughts. My first treatment was in December of 2012, I can’t believe it was that long ago. I was not prepared for how long the treatment would take as a whole. I’ve had six sessions and am still scheduled for another. The length of your treatment is different for each person. Some people can be done in 3-4 treatments. I guess I’m not one of those people. The nice thing is the treatments take about 20 minutes out of my lunch hour and I’m done. So even though it was longer then I expected it really is no hassle.
The length between my treatments were anywhere from 6-10 weeks depending on the growth of my hair. Before my last treatment last week I noticed a big difference in hair growth. This was a very encouraging sign because while the treatments are quick and easy to schedule I wouldn’t say that I go for the enjoyment.
The last session I went to I had taken a prescribed anti-inflammatory (for another issue). I definitely noticed that the overall pain level was much less and easier to handle. I had a new technician and she commented that I handle it better then most people and she was able to move faster than she does with most patients so maybe I just have a high tolerance for discomfort.
I did learn something new about laser hair removal. I learned that the laser will not work on white hair. I wondered why I had hair that didn’t seem to be showing any progress. Turns out it was because unfortunately the hair was white. The laser does not affect hairs with no pigment.
Laser Hair Removal Tips
- Be patient and no it make take quite a few sessions
- Do not shave the day of your treatment, in fact I would shave 3-4 days before unless you are asked not to shave
- Take Aleve or Ibuprofen before your visit to help dull the pain
- Log your progress: how many times you shaved, the last time you shaved, or any noticeable changes
