Let’s talk about teenage boys and hair! I spoke with you this weekend about my adult son and his “coming” into his own when it comes to his style and morning routine so that leaves my 17, almost 18 year old son. Yes I know, it is surprising I have sons this old! My younger son has always cared more about his style as early as middle school. I would characterize my sons style as athletic for the most part with a little bit of style thrown in. What I mean by that is he loves basketball shoes, Nike shirts, and gym shorts. However he also wears polo shirts and nice shorts.
He has always kept his hair shorter than his brother and has experimented with different styles over the years. With the shorter hair he can actual have a few different styles. He can wear it combed and clean cut or he can use styling products to get that very popular messy or bedhead look I see often.
Axe Styling Products
My husband was telling me how he use to use a was styling product when he was young when we were talking about my sons hair. So during my next trip to CVS I picked up three different products for us to test with my son.
AXE Natural Look Understated Cream – Of the three products this is the creamiest giving you a lot of control over how to use it. It is a light hold so your hair is not weighed down, and adds a little shine to your hair. My oldest son actually ended up using this one more than my younger son because it helped him keep some of his run away curls in place.
AXE Natural Look Softening Cream – thicker than the above mentioned product this is designed to keep your style all day but still has a natural look. A little goes a long way.
AXE Messy Look Matte Wax – of all the three products this one has the strongest hold on your hair to add a little bit of texture and allows you to place your hair where you would like. Easy to achieve that messy or bedhead look with this product. This product looks natural with no shine and none of that crunchy feeling you might find in other products.
After raising two boys my daughter has it pretty easy. What I learned is that it is up to your children to decide what their personal style is. When they are young we as parents get to decide how they dress. My oldest son wore a lot of golf clothes because we lived on a golf course with my mom. However now you wouldn’t find him in many clothes that would be considered golf material. I loves his hair when it was long but he got tired of it and cut it off. The best thing you can do as a parent is to embrace their uniqueness and help guide them when they need your help or ask for it.
I suggest buying different products for them when they are experimenting with their hair to find one that helps create the desired look. Ask their hair dresser or friends with teenage boys what works for them. Right now CVS is helping you experiment with these products with some great offers.

Another great tip for teenage boys is….once they are able to drive they are always on the go. My oldest son will often leave right from work to whatever he has going on. He will bring a change of clothes to work so he doesn’t have to stop by home. I have put together a “work bag” for him to keep in his locker with cologne, deodorant, and a brush. With the compact size of these Axe products above he can bring them just about anywhere with him so he can freshen up his style after a long day of work or leaving for a night out of town.
